About Us

Open Door (North East) is a Christian charity serving those in need. It was originally started by members of Jubilee Church Teesside in 2001, and was established as a registered charity in 2003. We aim to provide poverty relief and help to disadvantaged people in the North East of England, primarily in Teesside.

To date, the charity has expressed this aim through providing food, housing and material help to asylum seekers suffering destitution and hardship; and also friendship and a range of other services including housing to refugees.

Open Door aims to show the love of God as expressed in the life of Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches a great deal about caring for the poor and about practising hospitality to strangers. At Open Door we serve all people regardless of their gender, age, race, religion, culture or lifestyle.

This video featuring our previous CEO gives an overview of what we do and why.

Open Door North East is a member of NACCOM, an informal network of agencies providing accommodation for migrants who have no recourse to public funds. Most of these are asylum seekers whose asylum claims have been rejected, but for a variety of reasons have not been deported. For more information on NACCOM visit www.naccom.org.uk
